Getting started

ContextSnap follows one simple loop:

Capture → Collect → Organize → Copy or export

You capture pieces of a page, they collect in one temporary tray, you put them in the order you want, then copy and paste them or download a ZIP or Word document.

Capture text

1. Open ContextSnap once on the page — this enables text capture for that page.
2. Highlight the text you want.
3. Click the small Capture pill that appears next to your selection.

Prefer the keyboard? Hold Alt while selecting text and the capture happens immediately, with no pill click.

Capture visible screen

Captures the browser viewport exactly as it appears right now — whatever is visible on screen, nothing above or below it.

Capture area

Click Capture Area, then click and drag a rectangle around the part of the visible page you want and release. Press Esc to cancel — nothing is saved.

Capture full page

ContextSnap scrolls the page and stitches the sections into one continuous image, then returns the page to where you left it. Do not scroll manually while it runs.

The Full Page badge shows the completed capture's screen-length equivalent, rounded up (for example, Full page · 3 screens). This is not the number of Word pages. Full Page captures the main page; use Capture Scrollable Area for a panel that scrolls independently.

Extremely long, dynamic, infinite-scrolling, protected, or otherwise unusual pages may have capture limitations. ContextSnap stops safely and tells you rather than producing a broken image — use Capture Area or Capture Visible Screen on those pages.

Capture Scrollable Area

1. Open the page and bring the independently scrolling panel fully into view.
2. Open ContextSnap and click Capture Scrollable Area. The tray closes.
3. Move the pointer over the panel and check the highlighted scrollable area, then click to select it.
4. Wait while ContextSnap scrolls and captures the panel. Do not scroll or change the page during capture.
5. Reopen the tray to find the Scroll area image. The panel returns to its original scroll position.

Use this for chat histories, documentation lists, and dashboard panels. Press Esc to cancel selection; use Cancel in the tray during capture. Only the panel's visible width is captured. Clipped, covered, removed, moving, or endlessly growing panels may be refused rather than saved as a broken image. Virtualized or rapidly changing content may still have limitations.

Session tray

Captured items appear in the tray in the order you captured them.

• Reorder items by dragging them or using the up and down controls.
• Delete a single item with the ✕ button; its stored image is removed too.
• Copy copies that one text capture.
• Copy Image copies that one visible-screen, area, full-page, or scroll-area capture as an image.
• Copy Context combines all text captures, in order, with their source title and link.
• Clear Session removes everything. This cannot be undone.

Copy Context combines captured text. Images remain separate and use Copy Image.

Copy All Images

Combines every image capture into one vertical image in tray order, without resizing or skipping screenshots. Text captures are excluded. Paste into an application that accepts images; this is one composite image, not a multipage Word document.

Very large combinations may exceed image size limits and are refused. Use Export All Images or Export for Word instead. If an image is missing, remove or recapture it and retry.

Export All Images (ZIP)

Click Export All Images to download every image capture as a separate original PNG in one ZIP. Files are numbered in tray order; text captures are excluded. Extract the ZIP to use the PNGs individually. It is generated locally and downloaded through your browser, with no upload or external conversion service.

Export for Word (.docx)

Click Export for Word to download a Word document containing all screenshots in tray order. Open the downloaded .docx in Microsoft Word. Text captures are excluded: the document contains screenshots as images, not editable text, and does not perform text recognition.

Narrow captures use portrait pages; wider desktop captures use landscape, based on effective capture width and recorded scaling. Pages use 0.4-inch margins. Long screenshots split into lossless PNG sections at their original pixels, preserving aspect ratio and seeking blank gaps for page boundaries. Small intentional overlaps may appear where no suitable gap exists. Each capture starts on a new page; mixed orientations are supported.

Word exports are generated locally and downloaded through your browser. Large exports have memory and size limits and may be refused. Older captures without scaling metadata assume 100% capture scale. Page appearance can differ in other document viewers; there is no Copy for Word action.

Using ContextSnap with other applications

ContextSnap puts your captures on the clipboard. From there you paste them yourself with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on Mac) into any clipboard-compatible destination — AI chat interfaces, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, email, notes apps, and more. Text pastes anywhere; images paste into destinations that accept images.

ContextSnap does not connect to, integrate with, or partner with any of those services.

Troubleshooting

• Protected browser pages — such as browser settings pages and the extension store — cannot be captured. This is a browser security rule. Try a normal webpage.
• Some webpages interfere with text selection, so the Capture pill may not appear. Open ContextSnap on the page and highlight again, or use Capture Area instead.
• Full Page and Scrollable Area capture have safety limits on length and number of sections, and stop rather than producing a broken image.
• Export failed or an image is unavailable? Remove or recapture missing images, reduce the number or size of captures, and retry. Exports do not silently omit unavailable images.
• If a newly installed development build is not responding, reload the extension on the extensions page and reload the webpage, then try again.
• Captures are temporary and are not designed to survive a browser restart. Paste anything you want to keep somewhere permanent.

Privacy

ContextSnap v1.1.0 works entirely on your device: no account, no cloud upload, no analytics. ZIP and Word exports are generated locally and downloaded through the browser. Downloaded files and pasted copies remain after you clear the tray; manage those copies yourself. Read the full privacy policy.
