Privacy Policy

Summary

ContextSnap is a local-only Chrome extension. Everything you capture is processed and stored inside your own browser. ContextSnap has no server, no account system, and makes no external network requests in v1.1.0. ZIP and Word exports are generated locally and downloaded through your browser.

Local processing

All capture, cropping, stitching, and storage happens inside your browser on your own device. Captured text and screenshots are never uploaded to ContextSnap servers, because there is no capture-upload service. ContextSnap does not use cloud storage in v1.1.0.

No account, no tracking

• No sign-up, login, email address, or identifier is collected.
• No analytics, telemetry, tracking pixels, ad SDKs, or usage reporting in v1.1.0.
• Captured content is never used for advertising.
• ContextSnap never sells, shares, or transmits captured content. If you choose to paste or share it with another application, that destination's privacy practices apply.

What is stored, and where

• Session metadata (item order, type, captured text, page title and URL, image dimensions, capture scaling, and available screen-count metadata) is held in temporary extension session storage, which the browser clears when the browser closes.
• Captured image blobs are stored in the extension's own local IndexedDB database on your device during the active session, referenced by the session.
• Images are deleted when the item is deleted, when the session is cleared, and are pruned on browser start and extension install. Captures are not designed to survive a browser restart.

Page access

ContextSnap accesses a webpage only when necessary to perform a capture action you requested. It requests no host permissions; page scripts are injected on demand for the tab you are working in.

Clipboard

Content only reaches your clipboard when you explicitly click Copy, Copy Context, Copy Image, or Copy All Images. Copy All Images combines screenshots into one image. ContextSnap does not read your clipboard.

Local downloads

Export All Images (ZIP) and Export for Word (.docx) use the screenshots already stored on your device. The files are generated locally and downloaded through your browser, without uploading captures to ContextSnap or an external conversion service. ZIP exports contain separate original PNGs; Word exports contain screenshots as images, not editable text.

Downloads are separate from the temporary tray. Clearing the session, closing the browser, or removing the extension does not delete files you downloaded or content you pasted elsewhere. You control those copies yourself.

Permissions

• activeTab — lets ContextSnap act on the tab you are viewing when you start a capture.
• storage — holds temporary session metadata for your capture tray.
• scripting — injects the selection pill and area-selection and scrollable-panel pickers, and scrolling capture helpers on demand.
• clipboardWrite — writes text and images to your clipboard when you click a copy action.

Your control

Clear Session deletes all capture metadata and all stored images immediately. Removing the extension removes its storage.

Changes

If a future version adds a network feature, this policy and the store data-use disclosures will be updated before that version ships.
